We took a full day and a half day private trip. Both excellent value with a very informative and careful driver guide. Booked at the office in the main square in Sal Rei. Good information given prior.... more »

I am me there was because outside everything suggests that it is an official tourist office, but this really isn't the case! I wanted to have a detailed map of the roads on the island to make a trip but the gentleman who is there answered very curtly that he ny have a card and that walking or taking a car only was extremely dangerous on the island! Then my husband who is Italian, came in turn and he became much more friendly! So if I think the other reviews this gentleman is friendly with his compatriots and this isn't a question of language because he master English! He was so scared on the dangerousness of the island that we ended up taking a quad tour. Finally it was fine because it is difficult to be spot in the dunes on the side of Santa monica. However the next day we wanted to rent a car. He explained that it was not recommended to take a car only because it theres no signs on the island... we have even booked the car but the next day, at the time to fetch it, the car was booked another day... we ended up we manage alone and found that there are signs for most of the directions. It is a little difficult to get on the tracks but with Google map, you can quite sen out! We drove until a Fundo das Figueiras without any problems and even pushed to the lighthouse which is beautiful!
