For panoramic views over the city and its lake, climb the northern tower of Cathedrale de St-Pierre. Known mostly as the adopted home church of John Calvin (one of the leaders of the Protestant Reformation), the cathedral dates back to the 12th century, its architecture an eclectic mix of styles. The archaeological site beneath the cathedral, excavated over the last few years, reveals the city's rich history and explores the origins of Christianity in this part of Europe. Take the underground passage connecting the cathedral to the adjacent museum, dedicated to presenting the historical significance of the Reformation. Audio guides are available in English, German, and French. If you'd prefer a guided tour, check the website, where you'll also find information about upcoming live organ performances. This is a wonderful place and a great way to enjoy Geneva. The cathedral is always free, classic Reformation style. The museum below is more than worth it and if you have the patience, you can easily spend a whole day there alone. In the summer there is bell ringing as well as a free organ concert. Highly recommended all around.
Cool place to visit to check out the amazing views. The history is nice but you can still come and enjoy the old town and the views from the observation towers regardless of religion. Just make sure you’re okay climbing a lot of stairs in a narrow staircase. On top it has red and green lights to look out for so you don’t get stuck halfway when someone is going the other way.
